In our experience, parents' main concern is not knowing what to do or say when their child comes to them with a problem. Let's face it, they usually tell you as you tuck them up in bed. Then that's you up all night trying to Google the answer. It's not a nice feeling when you don't know what to say to help your child or how to help them.
This is the reason we created the Wise for My Size program. We want to make easy access to tools and techniques to be able to support children when they experience a challenge or difficulty.
The Wise for My Size program is packed with stories about everyday occurrences - not feeling able to tidy your bedroom or worrying about starting a new club. Or, they might use a metaphor to explain something like Aesop's fable or a fairy tale. Every story has a child at the heart of it, and that child solves their problems with a wise guide to help them.
These stories plant new ideas and ways of thinking that let your child take what they need from the story.
As a parent, we can support you in 3 ways
1. Join our Book Club and read our stories with your child
2. Find a Wise for My Size Group Near you
3. Work with one of our Certified Coaches, who will support you and your child.
We have a wonderfully Wise for My Size Coaching Certification program that will allow you to use our methodology, tools, and resources in your work and business.
Our program is an excellent fit for those wanting to set up and make a BIG difference in children's lives.
Our program is adaptable and allows you to coach one-on-one, run Wise for My Size groups, or weave the methodology and learnings into your classroom, sports club, or dance school.
If you want to support young minds with the freedom to work in the way that suits them and you best, we recommend looking at the how to become a coach.
Did you know that our brains are wired to respond to a story differently from hearing an instruction or a fact? Listening to a story simultaneously switches several parts of the brain: thinking, communication, problem-solving and critical thinking.
So, without nagging, lecturing, or preaching, you can start to plant ideas, explore tricky topics, and change perceptions simply by reading a Wise for My Size storybook.
In Step Two, We Reflect on how the story makes us think, feel and remember. This is a powerful way to deepen the teachings the story can offer.
As we are coaching children, our approach has to include elements of teaching to introduce new concepts, like the comfort zone or self-talk.
In Step Three, We Explore new ideas and concepts and develop empathy by considering different perspectives of the story from each character.'s point of view. In Step four, We Experiment by taking all this new learning and trying out new ideas, strategies, tools, and beliefs to see what works best.
If you want to develop new patterns of behaviour or new ways of thinking, it is essential to plan and prepare when you will use them. Step Five, We Prepare, is about getting ready for the next tricky time or opportunity.
Practice Makes Progress! We are over perfection - it's all about progress! It is those little changes that make the most significant ripples in life.
Step 6, We Practice, teaches us that we must keep practicing our new tools, learning, and strategies until they become familiar and easy. Then you are Wise for your Size!
